Today was my intern Mohamed Mahmoud’s last day in the office, and I am incredibly grateful for his contributions and proud of how far he has come. Originally from Egypt, his family immigrated to East Boston, where he was born and raised. He loves the friendships and community he has built in the neighborhood, and he enjoys solving problems and learning about ways to become civically engaged. Mohamed is a senior at East Boston High School, and he will be graduating in just a few weeks. Now that Mohamed has completed his internship, he will stay on to attend community events on my behalf. ✨End-of-Week Community Recap✨🏆 This week, Taqueria Jalisco received the Legacy Business Award from the City of Boston. 📍I joined the Eastie Coalition at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center to discuss goals and ongoing work to prevent and treat behavioral health challenges and promote community wellness. 🎨 I stopped by the opening reception for Guadalupe Maravilla’s exhibition at the ICA Watershed, which explores migration, trauma and healing through sculpture, painting and performance. Maravilla is a Salvadoran-born artist whose work will be featured at the museum through the rest of the summer. Admission is free. 🌊 I attended the Save the Harbor / Save the Bay’s Destination Boston Harbor 2023 Gala to support the organization’s mission to preserve and protect public access to the Boston Harbor, the Boston Harbor Islands, and our public beaches. I was honored to receive an award and recognition for my work as Co-Chair of the Metropolitan Beaches Commission. ✊ I joined 32BJ SEIU airport workers in solidarity.
